Jillpine and New History work together to make another challenging historic project possible.

CHALLENGE
The historic Sandstone School has stood empty since 2004, but is the heart of the small rural community. The abandoned school has substantial hazardous materials, and a roof that has collapsed in three locations. A statewide shortage of workforce housing has created a barrier to growth of regional businesses.
SUCCESS
New History is working with sister company, Jillpine, to reactivate the abandoned school as 32 units of workforce housing. New History supported Jillpine throughout the project planning and strategy process, including project phasing plans, identification of potential funding sources, and design guidance for historic preservation and reuse. New History continues to provide project management services to the city during the interior abatement phase, while collaborating with the housing project team on the design of the reuse.
