HISTORIC TAX CREDIT CONSULTANT

New History is excited to add a team member with expertise in federal and state historic tax credits. Based in Minneapolis, New History is a consulting firm exclusively dedicated to historic building redevelopment. The interdisciplinary team includes historians, licensed design professionals, historic preservation professionals, and project managers – all with a depth of expertise in the physical, financial, and regulatory framework for building reuse. Clients include real estate developers, counties, cities, and architecture and engineering firms, among others. New History primarily provides services in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the upper Midwest states.

Our team is our most valuable asset. Team members actively engage with clients, manage project communication, develop and execute strategic project solutions, and participate in business development. This role is expected to bring the following expertise:​

Historic Tax Credits: Experience with applications for federal and state historic tax credits.

Historical Architecture: Experience with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (“the Standards”).

Design Guidance: Ability to collaborate with project teams to develop design solutions to meet project requirements and historic preservation approvals.

Construction Services: Review of construction for compliance with historic preservation approvals.

Project Management: Client service, project communication, and execution of project strategies, including active collaboration with team members, clients, reviewing agencies, and stakeholders.

Business Development: Active participation in client relationships and business development.
Qualifications

Advanced degree in history, historic preservation, or related field with 3+ years of experience with historic tax credit applications, including research, writing, and field work.

Valid driver’s license and capacity to travel (predominantly local, with less than 10% out-of-state)

Desire to be part of a small, highly competent, self-managed team in a mix of in-office (Minneapolis), hybrid, and on-site work environments

Strong relationship and client management skills, and excellent written and verbal communication

Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification

Knowledge of building types, construction, and materials.

Passion for historic building redevelopment
