Providing information about historic resources lays the groundwork for future development projects.

CHALLENGE

Established in the mid-1800s as an agricultural community, Cottage Grove is now a growing suburb of the Twin Cities. As the city continues to develop, information about their historic resources is needed to evaluate redevelopment proposals and balance historic preservation with community priorities.

SUCCESS

New History provided historic preservation consulting services to the city, advising on how to integrate history into specific redevelopment projects. New History assessed the historic significance of buildings, structures, and sites, and provided historic design guidelines to guide renovation and new construction at historic properties. New History’s work has provided a process and tools for how the city can evaluate and support redevelopment of historic sites, laying the groundwork for the community’s continued growth and development.
